TV – your lives in our hands
A panel of industry experts will discuss ethics and trust in TV documentaries.
Channel 4’s Benefits Street brought audiences of more than 5m to the lives of people trapped on welfare and sparked a national debate.
However critics labeled the series “poverty porn”.
So how do you handle vulnerable contributors in character-led documentaries, balancing the need to show viewers how it is without making participants feel betrayed?
